AC and Heating Repair in Taylor, TX

East Williamson County on US 79 and SH 95

A street in downtown Taylor lined with two-story historic brick commercial buildings under a blue sky

Taylor is a railroad town in east Williamson County, on US 79 about nine miles past Hutto. Its housing is much older than anywhere else in the area, and that changes what HVAC repair looks like here.

Older Homes in Taylor

Census figures put the median Taylor home at about 1979 construction. About half of homes were built before 1980, and about one in six before 1940 (Taylor Census housing data). Houses from before 1940 predate central air, so any ductwork in them was added later.

Work on older Taylor homes often involves duct and airflow repair, worn outdoor units, undersized returns and thermostat wiring that has been patched over the years. About 55 percent of homes heat with electricity, so heat pump and heat strip repair is common in winter.

Taylor Weather

The NOAA normals station just northwest of town averages about 115 days a year at 90 degrees or more and an August high near 97 (NOAA climate normals).

Utilities in Taylor

The Taylor Economic Development Corporation lists Oncor for electric delivery and Atmos Energy for gas (Taylor utilities and infrastructure).

The town has an Amtrak Texas Eagle stop, the 120-acre Murphy Park on Veterans Drive, Heritage Square downtown, Bull Branch Park, the Dan Moody Museum and the Heritage Oaks subdivision on the west side.

Common AC and Heating Repairs in Taylor

Older Taylor houses bring their own set of repairs: undersized or leaking ductwork that was added after the house was built, return air that pulls from too few spots, outdoor units near the end of their life and thermostat wiring that has been patched more than once. With more than half of homes on electric heat, heat pump and heat strip repairs come up every winter. The roughly one in six homes built before 1940 often have small returns and long duct runs, which show up as rooms that never cool on a 100 degree afternoon. Window units and add-on systems in these houses need their own drain lines and electrical checks.
